UGVCL REAPS GOLD AT NATIONAL
AWARDS
UGVCL is awarded Gold Shield by
Ministry of Power, Govt. of India
On 22nd March 2012, UTTAR GUJARAT VIJ COMPANY LIMITED was
awarded Gold Shield by Ministry of Power, Government of
India, for meritorious performance among distribution companies in
power sector for the year 2010-11. The award is under the category
“Performance of Distribution Companies”. The award was originally
instituted in the year 1983 by Ministry of Power for Thermal Power
Stations only, which was gradually modified, to include best
performance among hydro and nuclear energy, transmission and
distribution utilities etc. Earlier, on 21st March, 2007
UGVCL received Bronze Shield for its excellent performance during
the year 2005-06.
During a gala event organized at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on 22nd
March, 2012 Hon’ble Union Minister of Power Shri Sushilkumar Shinde
presented the National Award to UGVCL’s Chairman Shri V.N. Maira,
IAS and Managing Director Shri N. Srivastava, IFS, in the gracious
presence of Shri P. Uma Shankar, Secretary to Government of India,
Ministry of Power, Shri K. C. Venugopal, Hon’ble Union Minister of
State for Power and Shri Arvinder Singh Bakshi, Chairperson of
Central Electricity Authority.
Three best performing distribution companies in the country are
selected by Central Electricity Authority from various nominations
received from electricity distribution companies across the country
for Gold, Silver and Bronze Shields respectively.
The criteria for assessing the performance by Central Electricity
Authority includes :

UGVCL has consistently improved its performance. The AT&C losses
have reduced over the years as shown in the statement below:

During the year
2010-11, the Company’s AT&C losses were 6.63% against 16.96% in
2009-10. The low AT&C loss was due to regularization of load of
4,38,963 HP in agriculture, increasing the sold out units for flat
rate consumers by 746.24 MUs. Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps (EEP)
were installed in 12,929 Ag. Customers during FY 2009-10, due to
which 1,03,071 HP was saved, resulting into a saving of 175.22 MUs.
Also exceptionally good rains in 2010-11 resulted into overstating
energy consumption in agriculture.
For 2010-11, the Company’s financial health
improved and it booked a net profit of Rs. 12.67 Crores. At the end
of March 2011, 81.75% DTCs were metered, whereas 100% consumers were
metered, excluding Ag. Flat Rate consumers as exempted by Gujarat
Electricity Regulatory Commission.
