As
an achievement towards fulfilling customer satisfaction
through service excellence, UGVCL has been awarded 2nd "India
Power Awards 2009" in recognition for overall utility
performance in Agriculture Dominated Area. The award function
was organized on 17th November, 2009 at India Habitat Centre,
New Delhi. The award was presented by Shri Bharatsinh Solanki,
Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Power, Government of
India which was received by Shri A. K. Verma, (on right)
Managing Director, on behalf of UGVCL.
The
Council of Power Utilities is an Apex organization of all
power utilities of the country. The 2nd award was given
under various categories such as overall utility performance,
research and technology, greening the power sector, energy
efficiency conservation and DSM, social and community impact,
innovative financing, IT application, etc. There were more
than ninety nominations received this year. The jury comprised

The
Council appreciated the role and performance of UGVCL. Despite
UGVCL providing more than 55% of energy to farm sector,
the distribution loss remained at 14.31% during the year
2008-09. The Council also appreciated role of UGVCL in implementation
of Jyoti Gram Yojna (JGY). Recognizing the overall performance
of UGVCL in an agriculture dominated area, UGVCL was declared
winner of 2nd "India Power Awards 2009".
This
is further milestone in the track record of UGVCL. Engaged
in the business of distribution of electricity in the northern
parts of the State of Gujarat, it has, in recent past, been
awarded a Bronze Shield for Meritorious Performance in Electricity
Distribution during the year 2005-06, National Award for
Excellence in Cost Management - 2007, First Prize in the
category 'Excellence in Rural Electrification' in IEEMA
Power Awards-2008, a pioneer company for Special Design
Transformers, and is accredited with ISO 9001:2000 Standard
for 'Management and Enhancement of Electricity Distribution
Operations'. The Company has Hi-Tech Meter Testing Laboratory
at Sabarmati, Ahmedabad with ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation
by NABL.
